September Bloom Day

by Susan Harris on September 14, 2008

In the fine tradition of gardenblogging, I present a snapshot of what’s flowering in my garden at mid-month.  Doing a grassy version of flowering is this Miscanthus sinensus but don’t worry; this late-flowering variety - ‘Morning Light’ -  isn’t invasive.   (Here’s more about that.)  This one does a great job hiding my trash cans.

More blooming action in my garden?

I love my miscanthus ‘cosmopolitan’. It’s putting on a great show right now. As for eragrostis…out with it! It’s seeding everywhere, so I’m shovel pruning that one! Great blog, adding yours to my blogroll. Happy Gardening! Cameron

Beautiful grass, Susan. Maybe I can find a way to work it into the landscape. Right now, I’m being content with my Calamagrostis ‘Karl Forster’ and my Pennisetum orientale - don’t know if it’s Karley Rose or not, but I sure do like it. I’m so glad I’ve discovered the wonderful world of grasses!

Hi Susan, I have that same grass and love it. I agree it is not invasive at all and the flower feather heads are so graceful and winter well. Good all around plant.

Some ornamental grasses get a bad rap. I may have one of those corralled in a tire planter. It’s of the zebra varieties. I also have one of yours, and M. Malepartus.
