Yesterday I took these shots – of a modest group of plants that nevertheless look stunning in mid-January – as I was walking through my back yard and into the woods. First you see the boulder stairs that lead from my basement door down into my garden.

Then the two mosses above (names, anyone?) adorn the path through the woods. I've written before about this wonderful woodland that my property sits on the edge of, but continue to marvel over it – even after 25 years of walking through it. Yep, after living in eight different places around metro D.C., I found my spot and decided to stay put.

That moss is just lovely and so is the woodland. I can see why you love it!
This reminds me of my childhood. I grew up on a farm and hated the never ending winters. Towards late winter, I often took long walks alone, enjoying the only green around: moss. Hidden beneath the old bridge next to the creek, on rocks in the field, and even on old fence posts, moss offered my eye a respite to the boring white and brown the rest of the countryside gave me.
Thanks for bringing a good memory back – delightful!

What a gorgeous walk! Here in Central Florida it is all brush and ugly palmetto bushes… not a good walk! I am so GREEN with envy!
I love moss and am trying to grow it all around my house… your pictures are so lovely
I’ve seen a few people around my area starting to use moss as a part of their landscaping, it seems like an easy landscaping idea if it is your thing!
