Winter's a lot more beautiful with the right architecture and some river birches, don't ya think? Like this view of the Mall side of the Smithsonian's Air and Space Museum. (Still, I believe, our hottest tourist attraction.) I was passing by the other day on my way to the Iranian Film Festival going on at the Sackler Museum. To complete the Southwest Asian experience, I took in the Falmana: Book of Omens tour while I was there. All free, of course – like almost all museums in D.C.
I've posted a different view over on GardenRant.

Has there ever been a tree better suited to modern architecture? Multi-stemmed specimens only please.
I was never impressed with river birch until I saw some in a neigborhood full of all of the dame lower growing ornamentat trees. One person has river birch planted by the street edge, and you turn the corner those trees really stand out. They are magnificent.
and I just made stunning typos, sorry. Gads.
If only they liked my clay better. I put in 3, only one was a clump, and it's doing the best. To me, they seem to have a thin line between too much and not eough water.
great photo ! you are lucky to live in a place with such awesome free museums – hope the film festival was interesting – mm
