This Spirea ‘Anthony Waterer’ is TOTALLY rewarding me for removing its dead flowers in late June or so. Elsewhere in the garden and going unphotographed, the one that escaped my Felcos has zilch in the rebloom department. You’d think I’d learn.
And because I never tire of shrub photos, here’s a close-up. Awfully nice in
mid-September when there’s nothing but the sedums making a show in my garden.

“mid-September when there’s nothing but the sedums making a show in my garden” Ah yes, but next Sept, now that you’ve come to appreciate the lowly annual, you’ll have as much color as you want in mid-September
You make me regret passing up the spirea at yesyerday’s Green Spring Garden plant sale. I’ve got enough new plants though that need to get into the ground before we get that 40 degree dip in temps predicted for this Wednesday night!
Love the spirea, I have some reblooming as well. Too many people think of just the “bridal veil” spirea, and skip this shrub genus but there are a lot of other varieties out there worth having. Keep reminding people that there are great flowering shurbs worth a spot in a garden.
DAMN fine rebloom Susan. It looks so healthy.
Oh Susan, “nothing but sedums”? I know we are 1-1 1/2 zone north of you but try Boltonia, Eupatorium ‘Chocolate’, or Daisy ‘Nipponicum’ (N. nipponantheum) or Japanese Anemones – all of which are or will be gorgeous now or very shortly for us here in mid to late September in zone 6!
Try it, you’ll like it
Robert
PS Balloonflowers w/ mucho deadheading work for us too up until last week – still a few more blooms coming.
I love September/October for the scattered reblooms and the plants who held back until now to strut their stuff. I see in techno color when I look at my garden right now, but I did forget (lazy!) to cut back my spirea. Drats. Your spirea is a nice one.
Beautiful – I need to check the zone on that one!
