My recent post about Rebecca’s garden with its eye-catching blue wall reminded me I have a pretty noticeable blue wall myself. This back wall of my house, dark under the oversized deck, was the most depressing gray in its natural state and I found the whole scene to be, well, depressing. So one day I decided it was nothing a little paint wouldn’t fix and I set out to select a lovely Colonial blue.
No, your computer monitor doesn’t need adjusting. This is, in fact, more of a bold, neon blue, a paint-store mistake I decided to live with because it’s just the underdeck, right? But then someone told me it looked tropical, like the Caribbean Sea, and in my eyes it was transformed, or about to be.
All it took was a little ivy growing up the wall in seaweed-like strands. Trips to Mexico and some islands yielded this gecko, a crab, a few fish, and a little Haitian shack. And the result, a long way from Colonial Williamsburg (thank god), has gotta be the coolest underdeck in all of Takoma. Or so the kids in the neighborhood tell me.

More photos of this wall please! Especially showing the tropical(?) fish.
And thanks to a previous post of yours, we are now a bit poorer for having splurged on 2 teak armchairs for the garden. Will post a photo when they’re delivered next week.
A “…pretty noticeable blue wall…” Now there’s an understatement! Love it though especially your use of the gecko on it. I’ll join Val in screaming “Encore”
Yes, fantastic wall. LOVE the colour and the ‘extras’. I must show Richard as he loves painting things in the garden – lattice, stakes, etc.
Susan – I think you need to move to Australia as all comments on this posting so far are from Oz. I’m sure you’ll feel right at home here.
Very cheerful Susun!
