I’m in the mood for high summer and I know just the place to visit. It’s the garden of Priscilla Labovitz, a very cool lady, wife and mother, immigration lawyer, club member and neighbor who’s agreed to host our club picnic next summer. (Thanks!!) First, at the street entrance to the garden is an archway of Persian ivy that’s stunning all year. The pots just add to the lushness.
This next view is of the back and it reminds me of Oehme Van Sweden, the local design firm that popularized sweeps of such plants as rudbeckia, grasses and sedum and had such an impact on modern garden design. I keep harping on sweeps and here’s some gorgeous ones for our enjoyment. Very drought-tolerant, too.
I can tell Priscilla gets a lot of enjoyment out of her garden because she designs it in such an organic and collaborative way. And the results aren’t shabby, either.

Were those photos taken recently? I mean, does your friend still have rudbeckia blooming in January? If so, I’m *jealous*! I could use a burst of summer here too. Thanks for sharing.
No, here in Zone 7 that photo is only a memory of last July. I share your jealousy of gardeners in milder climates.
